The current Delt Shelter has been home to
Delts at the University of South Dakota since 1939. The northern
addition to the Shelter was added in 1955.
The Shelter offers living quarters on the
second and third levels, including a penthouse with balcony. The
main level offers a great room, dining hall, full kitchen, lounge
area, card room, computer lounge, and a graduate advisor
apartment. The lower level offers a Chapter meeting room, a
special events room, a game room, a lounge area, and a laundry
room. The grounds of the Shelter offer room for outdoor sports,
including a sand volleyball court, as well as a lounging deck
connected to the dining hall.
The Shelter has literally been a strong
foundation for Delts for many decades and many generations!
However, as time moves on, the Shelter shows its age. Therefore,
some upcoming housing projects are scheduled in the near future,
such as replacing the current heating system with a system of
better efficiency.
The windows of the newer addition may be replaced and upgraded for
efficiency, as well. These improvements will be aesthetically
pleasing, as well as contribute to reduced operating costs of the
Shelter, which will lower housing costs for members!
Other improvements are already being
completed, such as new carpeting being placed throughout the
public areas of the Shelter. The
restrooms on the upper two levels have also been recently
remodeled and updated.
Newer free-use laundry machines have replaced
the older coin-operated machines for the members of Delta Gamma.
Members have also painted the upper two levels of the
Shelter. The
“Penthouse” balcony has been renovated and will be well
utilized.
As you can see, the Delt Shelter is
continually growing better, just as the members she shelters!
These updates are made possible largely by funding provided by
Delta Gamma Alumni. We wish to thank all our Alumni for enabling
the current brothers housed in the Shelter to sustain what
sustains us!
